WORK AT WAUKAWAY

 

As a member of our summer staff, you are part of a team that is responsible for making sure that the groups who attend are able to have a fun, exciting, safe camp experience, while having the opportunity to share with the campers about the love of Christ. As a summer staff member, your job is to facilitate activities, meals, and events so that group leaders can be free to interact with their students and allow the Holy Spirit to have an impact on their lives.

All staff take part in the American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED course, and are trained to serve as lifeguards at the waterfront.  You will be trained to lead team-building/leadership training activities and recreational games. You will also be trained in various food service, housekeeping, and customer service skills. In addition, some summer staffers may be taught other skills such as campfire building, running a sound board for worship, making pancakes, and much more!!

FULL-TIME POSITIONS

Maintenance Technician

 

The goal of this position is to maintain and improve the physical property of the camp, including buildings and facilities, vehicles and equipment, and grounds. This individual should perform tasks that will impact both guests and staff in the present and future removing any barriers for growth and helping to create a physical atmosphere where walls can be broken down and real life change, and community, can develop. This position will take ownership in the following areas:

 

  • Repair and upkeep for all buildings.

  • Maintenance of all roads, trails, and grounds.

  • Upkeep and preventative maintenance of all camp vehicles and equipment.

  • Work with the director to game plan for future physical updates and improvements that will give added value to guests and staff. 

  • Oversee both volunteers and staff on work jobs to maintain and improve the camp.

  • Ensure tools are available, in working order, and organized for easy identification so that volunteers and staff can perform duties.  

  • Maintain an organized workspace so that tools and equipment can be easily found and returned by volunteers who only come on site once. 

  • Operate and work within designated budget for all areas and projects.

 

While this list is not exhaustive of all roles and expectations of this position, the expectation is that this role takes ownership of all electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, septic, and mechanical work. This role does not need to be proficient in all areas, but willing to learn, adapt, and contact needed workers or companies needed to complete any project that may arise.
